Prevention Resources honors Director Jeff Kuhl for outstanding leadership, commitment to a Stigma-Free Hunterdon County
HUNTERDON COUNTY, NJ – Prevention Resources, Inc. on Sept. 24 formally recognized Hunterdon County Commissioner Director Jeff Kuhl for his exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to making Hunterdon County a Stigma-Free community.
Under Director Kuhl’s leadership, all 26 municipalities have passed resolutions to be Stigma-Free, a campaign focused on addressing mental health and substance abuse issues by fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for all residents.
“As many of you know, I like to get things done and make a difference. The ‘Stigma-Free In ’23’ campaign was launched to address the fear, misunderstanding, and prejudices that so often surround people with mental illness and addictions. Through hard work and commitment, Hunterdon County was able to get all 26 municipalities to pass resolutions committing to being Stigma-Free, so that people struggling don’t have to feel ashamed to ask for help and can overcome addition and have a wonderful productive life,” Kuhl said.
Recognizing the need to remove the barrier of negative judgement for those in need of mental health services, the Board of Commissioners led by Kuhl achieved the goal in May of 2023 of having every single municipality join the Stigma-Free campaign.
“The campaign involved sending personal letters to every mayor in Hunterdon County and following up with phone calls to advocate for this important issue. Between myself and our dedicated staff, we spoke to the mayors of towns that were reluctant to pass resolutions and explained that this is a real need,” Kuhl said.
Executive Director for Support Services at Prevention Resources, Meghan Moore, CPS said, “Today, Hunterdon County is a place of hope – a place where compassion and understanding are at the forefront of our approach to mental health and substance use. Thanks to leaders like Commissioner Director Kuhl, we are building a culture where everyone feels supported, valued, and free to seek resources they need without fear of judgment. We are sending a clear message: mental health IS health.”
