Raritan Township Fire Company, Hunterdon Medical Center hosts 12th annual 9/11 Stair Climb

RARITAN TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – The Raritan Township Fire Company and Hunterdon Medical Center Sunday morning hosted the 12th annual Stair Climb.

More than 160 firefighters, EMTs, and residents joined in the event to honor the 343 New York City firefighters who lost their lives in the attacks of September 11th, 2001. Attendees climbed the equivalent of 110 stories, many wearing full fire gear or weight vests, and carrying a picture of a firefighter who made the ultimate sacrifice 23 years ago.

The Stair Climb began after a moment of silence in observation of the North Tower being struck by Flight 11 at 8:46 a.m. Five additional moments of silence were observed during the events to commemorate the lives lost when Flight 175 struck the South Tower at 9:03, when Flight 77 struck the Pentagon at 9:37, when the South Tower fell at 9:59, when Flight 93 crashed in Shanksville, PA at 10:02, and when the North Tower Fell at 10:28.

“The Raritan Township Fire Company is deeply appreciative of our partnership with Hunterdon Health, and for the overwhelming support we received from our local community. Although a 100% volunteer organization, heavily reliant upon donations, the Raritan Township Fire Company is donating all proceeds from the event to our partners at the FealGood Foundation,” the fire company said

On September 11th, 2001, 343 firefighters lost their lives. Since then, more than 371 activity duty firefighters, and more than 350 retired firefighters have died from 9/11 related disease. The FealGood Foundation continues the fight to ensure “No First Responder is Left Behind.”
