Wayback Burgers hosts ribbon cutting at Sussex County location

HAMPTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Sussex County) – Wayback Burgers of Newton officially opened its doors on Thursday, February 27, with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new location at 17 Hampton House Road, Space 15 C-1, Newton, NJ.

The event marked a significant milestone for the franchise as it celebrated its arrival in the community. Local police, fire, and EMS departments made special appearances, adding to the excitement of the occasion.

The ceremony kicked off at 2:00 p.m. and was followed by a Touch-A-Truck experience from 3:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. Guests had the opportunity to explore emergency vehicles, take photos, learn about the equipment, and interact with the dedicated first responders who serve the community.

Among the attendees were local franchise owners Wahab and Laila Abbasi, along with notable community leaders such as Timothy Dooley, Mayor of Hampton Township, Helen Le Frois, Mayor of Newton, Tammie Horsfield, President of the Sussex County Chamber of Commerce, and members of the Greater Newton Chamber of Commerce.

The new Wayback Burgers location is the Abbasis’ first franchise venture. Long-time residents of Sussex County, the couple is passionate about giving back to their community. Laila co-leads the PTA at their children’s school, and both are actively involved in various local organizations. Their inspiration to open the family-friendly restaurant in Newton stemmed from a desire to create a space where families could come together to enjoy great food in a welcoming environment.

Guests were encouraged to try the Abbasis’ favorite menu items, including the Double Bacon Burger, the Cheeeesy, and the Chocolate Brownie Shake.

Founded in 1991 in Newark, Delaware, Wayback Burgers has grown into a beloved fast-casual restaurant known for its made-to-order burgers and hand-dipped milkshakes. The chain boasts over 170 locations across the United States and internationally, with locations in Brunei, Ireland, South Africa, Japan, and Canada.

In addition to offering a delicious menu, Wayback Burgers is a proud partner of Boys & Girls Clubs of America, having raised over $1 million to date through donations from burger and sandwich sales.

With this grand opening, Wayback Burgers is excited to become an active member of the Newton community, offering a place for families to enjoy a nostalgic dining experience while supporting a company dedicated to giving back.
