Woman sentenced to 20 years in prison for fatal stabbing in Hunterdon County
RARITAN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Raritan Township woman has been sentenced to 20 years in state prison for the 2024 stabbing death of a man inside their home, Hunterdon County Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson announced.
Domonique Preston, 45, pleaded guilty on June 16, 2025, to first-degree aggravated manslaughter in the death of 66-year-old Steven Spivey. On Friday, Superior Court Judge Christopher J. Garrenger sentenced Preston to a 20-year term. Under the No Early Release Act, she must serve 85 percent of her sentence before being eligible for parole and will be supervised for five years after release.
Authorities said Raritan Township police responded to a 911 call around 1:40 a.m. on Feb. 21, 2024, at a home on Manchester Road. Officers found Spivey dead from a stab wound to his shoulder and arrested Preston at the scene after she admitted to the stabbing.
Robeson said the sentencing provides accountability and hopes it brings a measure of peace to Spivey’s family. “Today’s sentencing marks an important step toward closure for the family of Mr. Spivey,” she said.
The case was investigated by the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office Criminal Investigations Unit and the Raritan Township Police Department.
