Fight For Air Climb set for April 14 at Red Bull Arena to support one million people in New Jersey with lung disease

American Lung Association signature event raises money to support people who fight for every breath

HARRISON, NJ (Hudson County) – To support people with lung disease and lung cancer who fight for every breath, the American Lung Association in New Jersey is hosting the 12th annual Fight For Air Climb at the Red Bull Arena on April 14 with a fundraising goal of $100,000.

The Fight For Air Climb New Jersey at the Red Bull Arena is the Lung Association’s premier stair-climbing event to raise money to help achieve its mission of saving lives by improving lung health and preventing lung disease. For the event, participants climb 780 stairs at the iconic Red Bull Arena. The event is designed for every type of climber, from beginners to competitive climbers.

“Every year, it is truly inspiring to see hundreds of local residents step up to help raise awareness and funds for their family, friends and neighbors who are living with lung cancer, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) and other lung diseases. This event also helps fund our work to prevent lung disease, like programs to educate teens about vaping, help people quit smoking and clean up local air pollution,” said Erica Masin, Executive Director of the Lung Association. “The Red Bull Arena is the perfect setting for a day of fun, challenge and camaraderie at our annual Fight For Air Climb event, and we invite everyone to join us for this impactful day.”

The Fight For Air Climb also includes a firefighter division where thousands of inspiring firefighters race up hundreds of stairs. The event builds comradery and friendly competition between firefighters for the fastest and top fundraising teams.

“As someone who lost a loved one to lung disease, I feel a duty to do as much as possible to help eradicate this malady which affects so many, both directly and indirectly. If every step is a stride toward a cure, I’ll be participating until I am no longer physically able,” said Michael Petrone, Fight For Air Climb New Jersey Team Captain and Firefighter with Newark Fire Department Engine 11, Tour 3.

Michael has been participating in the Fight For Air Climb New Jersey for over 7 years, and has cumulatively raised over $12,000 with his team. To support or learn more about Michael and his team, visit his page here.

Joining the Fight For Air Climb supports the work of the Lung Association to end lung cancer, champion clean air, reduce the burden of lung disease on individuals and their families, and create a tobacco-free future. In addition to supporting lung health, stair climbing has significant health benefits. It improves balance and coordination, strengthens major muscles, including your glutes; and consistent stair climbing as a daily activity helps lower mortality risk.
