Hunterdon County honors prosecutor’s office agent with employee appreciation award

FLEMINGTON, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — The Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office has recognized Agent Jay Hunter as a recipient of this year’s Hunterdon County Employee Appreciation Award, citing his contributions to public safety, training and community outreach.

Prosecutor Renée M. Robeson and Chief of Detectives Tim Drew announced the honor, highlighting Hunter’s extensive background in law enforcement and military service, as well as his ongoing work within the county.

Hunter, a retired Town of Clinton police sergeant and U.S. Marine Corps gunnery sergeant, served in the first Gulf War, Kosovo and completed three deployments to Iraq. He joined the prosecutor’s office in 2023 and is assigned to the Criminal Investigations Unit and the Special Weapons and Tactics team.

Officials said Hunter has played a key role in developing and coordinating training initiatives for law enforcement and community members. His work includes providing de-escalation and active threat training to county and municipal personnel, as well as conducting safety outreach at schools and houses of worship.

He also helped establish the Hunterdon County Veterans Response Training program for first responders and mental health partners and collaborates with the ARRIVE Together Program and Crisis Intervention Team training efforts. Each year, Hunter develops and teaches courses that train more than 250 law enforcement officers, according to the prosecutor’s office.

Outside his official duties, Hunter serves as commander of Spruce Run Memorial VFW Post 5119 in Glen Gardner, where he organizes programs and events to support veterans and raise awareness of their needs.

County officials said the Employee Appreciation Awards are based on peer nominations recognizing outstanding dedication and performance. A committee reviews submissions and selects honorees, while also working year-round to promote employee recognition and engagement across county departments.

Officials said Hunter’s leadership and commitment to service have had a lasting impact throughout Hunterdon County.
