Kean submits 20 community project funding requests across six counties in NJ-07

NEW JERSEY — Congressman Tom Kean Jr. announced that he has submitted 20 Community Project Funding requests for Fiscal Year 2027, representing projects across all six counties in New Jersey’s 7th Congressional District.

The proposals, submitted to the House Appropriations Committee, include a range of infrastructure, public safety and community development initiatives totaling millions of dollars in requested federal funding.

“These investments will make a very positive difference in the daily lives of the people we serve by strengthening infrastructure, supporting public safety, and improving quality of life in our communities,” said Congressman Kean. “I will continue to bring both parties together in Washington, DC to secure the federal support needed to deliver these resources for New Jersey.”

Community Project Funding allows members of Congress to request funding for up to 20 projects that benefit their districts. Eligible applicants include state and local governments and certain nonprofit organizations, and projects must demonstrate strong community support.

The submitted projects span Somerset, Warren, Union, Morris, Hunterdon and Sussex counties and include:

In Somerset County, a $975,000 request would fund Hillsborough Township’s public safety communications upgrade, replacing outdated radios with 75 all-band portable units. Branchburg Township seeks $2.25 million to renovate its Emergency Operations Center, while Somerville Borough requested $1.94 million for downtown improvements including the Division Street Arts Plaza and Giardina Walk. Bernards Township proposed a $1.84 million culvert and path project at Pleasant Valley Park, and Bridgewater Township requested $420,000 for cold food storage and food locker systems to support food distribution.

Hope Township requested $756,406 to replace an aging fire engine, while Warren County proposed nearly $2 million for a new law enforcement and emergency services training center.

In Morris County, Chester Township requested $137,500 to replace the failing roof of the Highlands Ridge Building, a multi-agency facility housing emergency services and community programs. Mine Hill Township proposed a $1.81 million project to replace aging asbestos-cement water mains. Mount Olive Township seeks $2 million to expand and modernize its police department facility.

Hunterdon County projects include a $300,000 renovation of the Frenchtown Police headquarters to bring the facility up to modern standards and a $1.39 million request to build a new Emergency Operations Center in Flemington.

In Sussex County, Sparta Township requested $2.52 million to replace approximately 210 lead and galvanized water service lines to improve water quality and comply with state law.

Additional requests include a $421,875 Emergency Operations Center project in Mountainside and a $1.77 million sidewalk reconstruction project along Valley Road in Watchung to improve pedestrian safety and accessibility.

Each project will now be considered as part of the federal appropriations process for Fiscal Year 2027.
