Readington Township police ‘Stuff the Police Cars’ event collects toys and donates 3 police cars to hurricane-hit North Carolina community

READINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ (Hunterdon County) – The Readington Township Police Department on Saturday held a successful “Stuff the Police Cars” event at the municipal building in Whitehouse Station.

The event aimed to collect new, unwrapped toys for families in Yancey County, North Carolina, a community still recovering from the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene.

The Readington Township Police Department is donating three police cars to the Yancey County Sheriff’s Office, which were initially slated for auction.

The response from the community was overwhelming, with all three police cars filled to capacity with toys and gift cards. The cars were carefully loaded onto a transport carrier on Monday, November 11th, to begin their journey to North Carolina.

In addition to the generous support from local residents, several organizations and individuals contributed to the success of the event. Special thanks were given to Ron Christy, Director of Readington Township Public Works, for organizing the transportation and car detailing; John Skiadas of Delta Automotive Services for arranging the cars’ transport to North Carolina; and Lenny Boffa of Speedline Car Wash & Detailing for preparing the police vehicles.

Further gratitude was extended to Readington PBA #317 for their donation and assistance in collecting toys, as well as to the Readington CERT for their help with traffic control. The Hillsborough Township Police Department generously lent their electronic message board, while the Hunterdon County PBA #188 and the Hunterdon County Chiefs of Police Association also provided support. The Whitehouse Fire Company contributed their efforts to ensure the event’s success.
