FRELINGHUYSEN TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Warren County) — A Pennsylvania man was struck and killed Thursday morning while assisting a disabled tractor-trailer on Interstate 80 West in Warren County, according to the New Jersey State Police.

State Police spokesman SFC Charles Marchan said troopers responded to the crash at 6:37 a.m. near milepost 14 in Frelinghuysen Township.

Based on a preliminary investigation, a Freightliner tractor-trailer had become disabled on the right shoulder of I-80. A roadside service vehicle was parked in front of the Freightliner, and the service technician approached the truck on the driver’s side.

An unknown white commercial vehicle traveling westbound then struck both the technician and the driver’s side door of the Freightliner, Marchan said. The vehicle fled the scene before troopers arrived.

The service technician, identified as Ethan Schultz, 20, of Bangor, Pennsylvania, sustained fatal injuries, according to police.

The crash remains under investigation, and no additional information was available.
