Washington Township MUA reminds Schooley’s Mountain residents of seasonal water restrictions

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — The Washington Township Municipal Utilities Authority is reminding Schooley’s Mountain customers that mandatory outdoor water restrictions remain in effect through Sept. 15.

The restrictions apply to customers in the Schooley’s Mountain service area, which includes portions of Washington Township north of Springtown Road and areas north of that section, according to the MUA.

Under the restrictions, outdoor water use is prohibited on weekends and limited to odd-even watering days between 7 and 8 a.m. and 7 and 8 p.m. on weekdays.

Officials said homes with even-numbered addresses may water on even-numbered weekdays, while homes with odd-numbered addresses may water on odd-numbered weekdays.

The MUA said the restrictions are intended to protect the health, welfare and safety of customers during the summer months.

Exceptions are in place for newly laid sod or newly seeded grass during the first 45 days after installation, though watering remains limited to the designated hours. Pool filling is permitted using only the minimum amount of water necessary, and permits are required for newly installed pools and certain repairs requiring draining and refilling.

Residents also are permitted to use handheld hoses with automatic shut-off nozzles for activities such as washing vehicles, watering landscaping and cleaning sidewalks, patios and driveways.

According to the MUA, violations may result in fines, including $100 for a first violation, $500 for a second violation and $1,000 for a third violation.

Residents with questions, permit requests or reports of violations may contact the Washington Township MUA office at 908-876-3145.
