Hopatcong announces JCP&L Reliability Improvement project to benefit more than 1,700 customers

HOPATCONG BOROUGH, NJ (Sussex County) – Hopatcong has announced a major project from Jersey Central Power & Light (JCP&L) under the New Jersey Reliability Improvement Plan, as Mayor Marie Galate announced on Friday.

As part of this initiative, JCP&L has designated landing circuit 17743 as a high-priority circuit for reliability enhancements based on historical circuit reliability data.

The project will take place on Brooklyn Mountain Road, spanning from Wake Forest Trail to the 600 block of Brooklyn Mountain Road. It is expected to benefit over 1,700 customers in both Phase 1 and Phase 2. Work began in December 2024 and is expected to continue through November 2025.

The scope of the project includes modernizing New Jersey’s energy grid by conducting vegetation management along the proposed route, trimming line circuits, upgrading primary distribution conductors (both overhead and underground), and replacing utility poles. Additionally, JCP&L will install protective devices to enhance grid reliability and meet both current and future customer demands.

“This project will enhance services and reliability for more than 1,700 customers,” said Galate. “Hopatcong appreciates your patience with the possible inconvenience and disruption of traffic during this project. It will be a much-needed improvement to Hopatcong’s electrical infrastructure. Thank you to JCP&L for this essential upgrade.”
