Firefighters extinguish basement fire in Morris County; no injuries reported

PARSIPPANY-TROY HILLS, N.J. (Morris County) — Firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in the basement of a private residence on Sedgefield Drive in Parsippany-Troy Hills on the morning of Feb. 9, authorities said.

The Mount Tabor Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched at 8:22 a.m. after the homeowner reported smoke and fire conditions inside the home. All residents were able to safely evacuate before emergency crews arrived, officials said.

Responding firefighters encountered heavy smoke conditions on the first floor while conducting an interior search. Crews quickly located the source of the fire in a basement bedroom and extinguished it using a hose line, bringing the fire under control.

Command of the incident was initially established by a Mount Tabor captain and later transferred to Fire Chief Ryan Masker upon his arrival. Firefighters from Mount Tabor remained on scene and assisted with ventilation, overhaul and securing the residence.

Additional assistance was provided by neighboring fire departments, which supported ventilation and overhaul operations. Emergency medical personnel, law enforcement officers, rescue units and a county mutual aid coordinator also responded to the scene. The township’s acting fire official and an inspector assisted with the investigation.

While crews were committed to the incident, another local fire company provided coverage for Mount Tabor and responded to a separate fire alarm elsewhere in the district.

The fire was declared under control with no reported injuries to residents or emergency responders. All units cleared the scene at approximately 10:32 a.m. The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Parsippany Police Department.
