Roxbury Repair Café returns April 18 to promote reuse, sustainability
ROXBURY TOWNSHIP, N.J. (Morris County) — Residents are invited to give broken household items a second life at the Roxbury Repair Café, returning this spring for its second year.
The free event will be held Saturday, April 18, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Roxbury Fire Co. No. 2, 110 Shippenport Road in Landing. The program is a collaboration between the Roxbury Public Library, the Lake Hopatcong Foundation and Roxbury Township Recycling.
The Repair Café encourages participants to bring items in need of repair and work alongside volunteer fixers to restore them, helping reduce waste and share practical skills.
Visitors can bring small electronics, lamps, bicycles, jewelry, sewing projects, household items and small woodworking repairs. Knife sharpening and sewing machine repair will also be offered. Organizers ask that items be easily carried and limit participants to two items per household and three knives per person.
“We’ve been thrilled by the response from the community,” said Sam Fellman, Repair Café team lead at the Roxbury Public Library. “People are excited to learn how things work, keep useful items out of the trash, and connect with neighbors who have the skills to help.”
Repair Cafés are part of a global movement focused on repairing items instead of discarding them, helping conserve resources while strengthening community connections.
“Our volunteer fixers make this event possible,” said Kellie Ann Keyes of Roxbury Township Recycling. “Their generosity not only helps residents save money but also keeps usable items out of the waste stream.”
Patrick Krudop, education and outreach director at the Lake Hopatcong Foundation, said the event reflects a broader environmental mission.
“Repairing and reusing items is a simple but powerful way people can reduce waste and care for the environment. It’s inspiring to see so many people come together to make that happen,” Krudop said.
Appointments are strongly encouraged and will be prioritized, though walk-ins will be accepted as space allows. Appointments can be scheduled at roxburylibrary.org/repair-cafe16255.

Organizers are also seeking volunteers interested in serving as repair “fixers” to help diagnose issues, make repairs and share their skills with the community.
