Trader Joe’s chicken fried rice recalled nationwide over possible glass contamination
Ajinomoto Foods North America is recalling approximately 3.37 million pounds of frozen chicken fried rice products, including Trader Joe’s branded items sold nationwide, due to possible contamination with glass, federal food safety officials said Thursday.
The recall involves not-ready-to-eat chicken fried rice products produced between Sept. 8, 2025, and Nov. 17, 2025, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Safety and Inspection Service.
Among the affected products are 20-ounce bags of “Trader Joe’s Chicken Fried Rice with stir fried rice, vegetables, seasoned dark chicken meat and eggs” with best-by dates from Sept. 8, 2026, through Nov. 17, 2026. The Trader Joe’s product was shipped to retail locations nationwide.
Also recalled are 1.53-kilogram packages of “Ajinomoto Yakitori Chicken with Japanese-Style Fried Rice” with best-before dates from Sept. 9, 2026, through Nov. 12, 2026. Those products were exported to Canada.
The affected products bear establishment number P-18356 inside the USDA mark of inspection.
The problem was identified after the company notified FSIS that it had received four consumer complaints reporting glass found in the product. No injuries have been confirmed, officials said, but consumers concerned about potential injury are advised to contact a health care provider.
FSIS warned that some of the recalled products may still be in retailers’ freezers or in consumers’ homes. Consumers are urged not to eat the products and should either discard them or return them to the place of purchase.
